HM Inspectorate of Probation (http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/cpg/hmiprobhome.htm) HM Inspectorate of Probation reports independently to ministers concerning probation service performance and contributes to the Home Office aim of achieving the effective execution of the sentences of the court so as to reduce re-offending and protect the public (Aim 4). HMIP also provides ministers and officials with sound advice on probation matters and promotes the development of effective probation management and practice.
National Probation Directorate & National Probation Service (http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/cpg/nps/) The National Probation Service for England and Wales (NPs) is a key, statutory Criminal Justice Service. It was established by the Criminal Justice and Court Services Act in April 2001 and comprises forty-two Probation Services (matching police force area boundaries) throughout England & Wales together with the National Probation Directorate based in London.
