Buying legal books is rarely cheap, and it can be difficult to know what you need. You also need to know that the book covers the latest law, difficult when you don't know what it is.
Once you have your arm stretching pile of books, you can in theory work out what the law was thought to be at the point the books was published, but UK law is not an exact science, more like a class of witchcraft, stir it a bit and up pops another test case, directive..... and of course the circumstances of different cases are rarely the same.
Getting the most up to date book is therefore essential especially if you have no great depth of understanding of the 'craft' or law, and for that reason we have linked books not to the cheaper second hand sites, but through Amazon, who stock turns over fast, so that you should not get an old edition. However when they have something out of print, it will be most likely be available at legal bookshops around the country or via second hand dealers.
A tip:- go to the book we have linked or put its ISBN into the Amazon search box, and if the publication date shown is more than a few months ago, click on the author, to see if it brings up a later edition.
Specialist legal bookshops will have very many books, often a wall full on Torts alone, and we have not tried within these pages to cover every book available but just some that can cover some topics.
Police manuals are not full legal books, but being aimed at the average police officer they are written for someone with a somewhat dim mentality, therefore it may useful if you want to get a quick overview of what they are supposed to know. We have also added a few general easy to follow books within this section, such as the police and criminal evidence act (PACE) codes of practice, although from talking to very many solicitors and police victims it would appear that this is not really followed anywhere.
